“A Course in Miracles” is a channeled book. It’s supposed author is Jesus Christ written through a psychologist who was agnostic and from a Jewish background.

So what are we to make of channeling?

Channeling is when the writer’s conscious mind is not the author of the piece. To a certain extent every piece of good writing is channeled. I know when I’m writing fiction I get out of the way and once I give life to the characters they take over and I’m just the typist.

The same is true when I’m doing hypnotherapy. I enter the trance with my client and allow my unconscious to lead me.

The Greeks had a great idea when they talked about the Genius of a person (Daemonium). This was to a certain extent part of the person (actually a more real part of the person than the persona – the role we play) but apart from the ego.

Your Genius surprises you and often the people who channel a work resist it at first. The lady who channeled “A Course in miracles,” was surprised and thought that she may have been going crazy. She contacted a colleague who later helped edit the work. The colleague told her that she was not going crazy and she should continue.

On the other hand there are times when people chanel entities at will and don’t mind doing it in public and making money from the channeling.

Are they truly channeling (that’s to say the thoughts do not come from their conscious mind) or are they faking it? I don’t know and I don’t really think it is important.

I think the real issue is the wrting or thoughts in themselves. As my teacher Stephan Hoeller said, “Just because you are dead or come from a different dimension does not make you wise.”

And unfortunately often supposed channeled works are not wise and are rehashing of new age thoughts. However, A Course in Miracle stands on its own as a wonderful work of wisdom.
