Lack of attention and the spider

Typically if I see a spider in the house I’ll do my best to save it by getting hold of it in a tissue paper and put it outside where it can live freely.
A couple of nights ago I saw a spider in a bath tub that I do not use. I was in a hurry and forgot all about saving the spider. Yesterday I walked in that bathroom again and saw the spider in the bath tub but I suppose since its presence was no longer novel I did not notice it.
Note I did see it – in retrospect I remember going to that bathroom and seeing the black spider in the tub, but it did not register into my consciousness.
We see and sense much more than we perceive and become conscious of. Most of what we sense we are not aware of – they become subliminal messages which pass us by.
However, thank God (at least the spider God) this morning I went into the same bathroom and at last I did notice the spider. So I took a tissue paper and manged to gently pick it up (it’s not easy for me as I’m a little afraid of this type of spider) without crushing it and take it outside and allow it to live in peace without bothering me or me bothering it.
I’m wondering how many opportunities (yes saving a beings life is an opportunity for me – I’m not judging others and see nothing wrong if someone else is more afraid of spiders and crushes them – it’s just that if possible I prefer to let the spider live) we let go of because we don’t notice – because we are not aware or conscious enough.
